Two things are certain in the contemporary workplace: the aging of employees, and negative attitudes toward them especially those with disabilities by younger colleagues and supervisors. Yet related phenomena seem less clear: how do negative stereotypes contribute to discrimination on the job? And how are these stereotypes perceived in legal proceedings? Bringing theoretical organization to an often unfocused literature, Disability and Aging Discrimination offers research in these areas at the same level of rigor as research into racial and gender discrimination. The book applies Social Analytic Jurisprudence, a framework for testing legal assumptions regarding behavior, and identifies controversies and knowledge gaps in age-discrimination and disability law. Chapters provide historical background or present-day context for the prevalence of age and disability prejudices, and shed light on the psychosocial concepts that must be understood, in addition to medical considerations, to make improvements in legal standards and workplace policy. The recent reforms of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) of the European Union extend in a significant way the decoupling  process started some ten years earlier. By adopting the Single Farm Payment (SFP) scheme only limited support for agriculture is tied to current production decisions. This is also true of U.S. farm policy. The reform act of 1996 introduced greater planting flexibility, shifted some support to direct payments, and eliminated the authority for acreage reduction programs. The 2002 and 2008 Acts retained these features. However, they added countercyclical components to direct payments based on market prices and historic production, and allowed for updating of base acreage underlying direct payments. These steps arguably reintroduced ties between support and production decisions. This volume explores the economic implications of these recent changes in the design of agricultural policies for the economic performance of the sector in the European Union and the United States. The book is organized around five themes: (1) New Directions in Agricultural Policy: U.S. and EU Perspectives; (2) Agricultural Policy and Economic performance; (3) Energy and Agricultural Policy; (4) International Trade and Agricultural Policy; and (5) Commodity Programs and Risk Management. The authors apply rigorous tools to analyze the impact and implications of current agricultural policies on efficiency, productivity, and competitiveness in the sector, and consider opportunities for improvement in policymaking and practice.

Research and development (R & D) leads to innovation, and innovation leads to technological change. Technological change, in turn, is the primary driver of economic growth. Public/private partnerships -- cooperative relationships among industry, government, and/or universities -- leverage the efficiency of R & D and are thus a critical aspect of a nation’s innovation system. This text is intended for upper-level undergraduate and MBA courses such as Economics and Technology, Economics of Innovation, and Economics of Science and Technology, among others. The first chapter introduces the concept of public/private research partnerships along with other concepts fundamental to an understanding of innovation and technology policy. The framework chapters (2-5) set forth an argument for the public’s role – government’s role – in innovation in general and in public/private partnership in particular. The remaining chapters (6-14) describe a number of public/private partnerships and, to the extent possible, evaluate their social impact. .

Dit is een boek voor iedereen die belangstelling heeft voor de geschiedenis van het denken over misdaad en straf en voor de doorwerking van de ideeën hierover in de strafrechtsbedeling en in de misdaadbestrijding in het algemeen. Het is dus evengoed een boek voor studenten, onderzoekers en beleidsmakers als voor advocaten, magistraten, politiemensen, justitieambtenaren en hulpverleners. Zoals het ook een boek is voor “gewone burgers” die willen weten waar de tegenwoordige aanpak van misdaadproblemen vandaan komt.Nooit eerder werd een inleiding tot de criminologie geschreven waarin haar geschiedenis vanaf de zestiende eeuw tot op de dag van vandaag stelselmatig wordt behandeld in samenhang met de geschiedenis van de instellingen van de strafrechtsbedeling: het politiewezen, de justitie, het gevangeniswezen, de reclassering en de jeugdbescherming.Ook werd nog nooit een studie gepubliceerd waarin niet alleen de ontwikkeling van de criminologie en de strafrechtsbedeling in West-Europa (België, Nederland, Duitsland, Frankrijk, Groot-Brittannië en Italië) wordt besproken, maar waarin ook systematisch de wisselwerking met hun evolutie in de Verenigde Staten vanaf het einde van de achttiende eeuw tot in deze tijd wordt uitgediept.Bovendien maakt de zeer omvangrijke bibliografie dit leerboek tot een uitermate geschikt instrument voor verdere studie en nader onderzoek. Is dit de toekomst van Europa ? Europa in 2026: President Poetin houdt een militaire parade ter ere van de annexatie van Estland; militair ingrijpen door de NAVO wordt geblokkeerd door Duitsland, waar de SPD een regering vormt met de Groenen en de Communisten na de historische nederlaag van de CDU; de Franse president Marine Le Pen was al uit het samenwerkingsverband gestapt in 2021; nadat Groot-Brittannië zich terugtrok uit de EU, volgden andere eurosceptische regeringen in Europa haar voorbeeld. Europa is niet meer. James Kirchick geeft in Het einde van Europa zijn toekomstvisie voor Europa, aan de hand van de negen grote problemen die op dit moment op het continent spelen, zoals politiek populisme, Russische druk, openlijke confrontatie met de islamitische gemeenschap, anti-Europese krachten.
